I took a risk by changing careers near 30. You can read about my thought process and why I changed in my previous post here!
After discovering Sales School Singapore and knowing what is needed to be in tech sales, I decided to join Sales School Singapore.
I knew that it would be challenging for me to go into Sales School Singapore as an introvert. However, I was willing to put in the time and effort to hone my skills as a Sales Development Representative (SDR).
Getting Into Sales School Singapore
After reading through the website on what Sales School does, I decided to sign up for it.
The sign-up process requires you to fill up a form on the website, after which, one of the instructors sent me a Cold Email assessment to complete. It was part of the screening process to check for your proficiency in English.
Once you passed that section, one of the Sales School Instructors contacted me to ask a few questions about Sales School and your goals in applying. They would then access these criteria and if all is well, you will be able to join Sales School Singapore’s 4-week course!
The Sales School Singapore’s 4-week course
It was daunting in the beginning as I was relatively new to sales. I was always the kind of guy who stood in one spot during flag donations instead of approaching people to ask for donations. I always took rejection personally and I wanted to break myself out of this limiting belief.
Sales School Singapore has 2 lessons every week, each lasting for about 3 hours. The modules are broken down into simple bite-sized lessons and easy to follow.
The 4-week course was that there were a lot of practical sessions that required us to roleplay or think on the spot about how we are supposed to find our desired lead as an SDR.
It gave me a peek into what an actual SDR role and responsibilities are. The roleplays also helped a lot with the interviews with recruiters and most importantly us doing the REAL SDR job.
What I liked most about the whole programme was the community and the network students were able to tap into to gain knowledge, and skills and ask questions to different mentors available in Sales School Singapore.
The 4-week course flew past quickly and it was soon time for the final test for the students in batch 3.
The final test is an assessment to see if we can apply the skills we have learnt during the 4-week course during a mock SDR interview.
Post-Course
After graduating from Sales School Singapore, we were tasked to hit certain KPIs for applying for jobs and outbounding people.
Each student will be assigned a Customer Success manager to help with any challenges or issues we have during the job-hunting period.
My whole experience with Sales School Singapore was great as my Customer Success manager was very helpful and patient during my job-hunting period. She provided excellent recommendations on who I should contact to help with my interviews and how to increase my chances of getting an interview when I was struggling to get one.
